Dentist Appointment (Part 2)
I had this morning my second dentist appointment.Ok, my readers from the us probably will say ok what's special about that, but for a German who is used to get treated by insurance coverage, it's pretty impressive. The other reason is, in Germany dentists are usually not that hi tech because they try to get richer not to get hi tech.
Today they took the x-ray images of my jaw. So i thought the old fashioned way. Photographic plate, lead apron to protect your balls and a big bad ass x-ray machine in a separate room. That was far from it!
As i prepared myself to change the room the assistance came up with a small plastic plate in a fixture with an attached cable. The cable ended in a computer right next to the medical chair i was sitting on. The only thing what was old school was the lead apron, the rest was hi tech. She just told me that the new x-ray machines have a low radiation and all the x-ray pictures are digital. I only thought, "yeah, whatever. Stop shitting me". But hey, she was right - digital x-rays - welcome to the 21th century.
As she then came up for the molds shells for my jaw for a 3D model, i was a little disappointed. the same steel shells, the same pinkish silicon mass, the same smell and the same ugly taste.
I thought she will come up with some spacey 3D laser scanner gadget. - Ok maybe we are not so far in the 21th century.
But still It was a pretty cool experience. For my taste it took a bit to long with retaking pictures because the plate was not perfect in position.
In the end he took digital pictures of my smile for before / after pictures.
So the next 6 appointments are set up, since my dentist looked in my mouth and yelled "makeover". I can't wait with which hi tech gadget they'll come up the next time.
