How to confuse the average American???
Build a roundabout and you confuse the hell out of em.They expanded here in South Bend the SB National Airport. The Airport got a runway expansion in north-south direction.
So they had to relocate the road to highway US31. Ok so far no big deal.
The next great idea they had, was to build a roundabout instead of a traffic light. Ok a plain roundabout would not be a big deal eather, but it is a two lane roundabout. So the average American is confused! ("When i'm now supposed to drive?" and my experience is that the average American waits at a "STOP" or "YIELD" sign till there is no car in sight. ). So the average driver imaginably transforms a "YIELD" sign into a "STOP" sign, because there is continues a car in sight.
And to screw really with them, they build not only one, they build two of them. I'm looking forward to a crash history. So the fastest way to the highway from my office is now around the airport.

Oh a colleague told me today that they had roundabouts before in the US, but the transformed them into traffic lights because nobody could figure out how to use them.
So roundabout take two!
